And I love ribs.

I also like steak and crab cakes. Mmmm old bay. I have been a carnivore all my life and recently I was presented with a proposition. You see, my sister,

a sincere vegetarian, and her husband, a vegan,

*(note,my sisters pic is from her childhood, her husband’s (Mario’s) is current. No need for an Amber alert.)

challenged me to adopt their lifestyle as we travel together on the SD Roadtrip. I was initially intrigued by the positive health benefits, but ultimately decided to accept their challenge just to see if I could do it. After all, like any adoption if I don’t like it I can always return it as long as I have the receipt. I do intend to give it my all. Thankfully grilling season is over, but we may have a problem sometime around the end of November…

On the first official day of the road trip I abandoned the burgers and began my foray into the world of vegetarianism, luckily I have two experienced guides. We made our way up the coast to the wooded hills of northern California. So far I have had a few fantastic meals, including dinner at an Asian-fusion restaurant in Santa Cruz named Malabar.

I started with chili cakes and had tempeh gorang for my entree. Both were incredibly tasty and lead me to the conclusion that my carnivorous ways had limited my discovery of exotic and palatable dishes. After going into the grocery store I discovered all sorts of strange vegetarian fare, like red lentils, Quinoa and garbanzo beans.

(I was previously aware of Garbanzo beans existance, if not their purpose)

I’m looking forward to the new places this road trip will take me, and the new flavors as well because the life of a vegetarian, well, ”that’s a spicy wheat-a-ball!”

If only Marrakech wasn’t so far away.

Chess boxing: Fight!

Chess boxing: Fight!

Chess boxing: Touch gloves

Chess boxing: Touch gloves

Chess boxing: first, the chess.

Chess boxing: first, the chess.

Breaking News: Presidential Fitness Test scandal

Taking a cue from the Abu Graib detainees, overweight children around the country have filed suit against George W. Bush, claiming the “Presidential Fitness Test” tantamount to torture.

One of the plaintiffs, known only as Charles, agreed to speak to our Amanda Congdon, who is heading the investigative report.

When asked what his most painful experience was, Charles, age 11, took a moment to compose himself, a puff from his albuterol inhaler, and replied: “the flexed arm hang.” He recalls; “It was 3rd period, and I was the first to go. Why did I have to be the first to go? I’m never the first, usually I wait till everyone else is done and then try…but not this time.”

Charles shudders as he remembers that day.

“The President humiliated my son.” says Maura, Charles’ mother and enabler. “Who is he to test my child like this? We demand reparations!”

Charles blames his abnormally stubby arms for his 3 second hang time. “Coach had to lift me up to the bar, and when I grabbed on, the kids started taunting me, calling me T-Rex. When I asked coach to make them stop, he told me that the dinosaur was extinct for a reason.”

Coach Peter Projowski was later suspended after a controversial photograph of him and a pyramid of sweaty, fat children surfaced on the Web. At an emergency meeting of the PTA Security Council Coach Projowski insisted he was merely trying to drum up enthusiasm for his new gymnastics program.

Attempts to reach Coach Projwoski failed, however we were able to contact his ex-wife, Darlene, who claimed their marriage fell apart after they couldn’t agree on how many children to have. We got this statement from Darlene, “I wanted to have two kids, all Peter said was that he wanted “enough to build a pyramid.”

The glorious nation of Espana is victorious (I don’t know how to tilde on an American keyboard.)

The great victory over Germany finally cements the “perennial underachievers” as a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully this will bring La Liga some much deserved respect.

Welcome to the Controverse.

So it’s been a week since the last post. Many things have happened. First of all, we have a new segment at SometimesDaily called “The Controverse” it is a live-broadcast debate/talk show featuring myself and Amanda. It launches live on Kyte at 5 PM PST. Think of it as The View with less pant suits. and more controversy. Last time we broadcast we had some technical issues but we expect to be operating at full capacity on July 2nd (tomorrow). Some of the issues discussed last week were life-threatening motorcycle races, the AP-Blogger controversy and Kanye West.

Awe-inspiring Antarctica - CNN.com

Awe-inspiring Antarctica - CNN.com:
Some people that know me know that the “set foot on all seven continents” happens to be one of my goals as well, so for anyone that feels the same way, check out this article by Chris Bach from CNN, detailing a route to the most difficult part.

John & Jenna - Inevitable (via steffanie1988)
